Gender (in)equality - theory and fact
Girls are special, well this is not equality. If we need an equal status everybody has to be think like that, that includes females as well. If we start treating someone with preference we have already made them unequal. I believe there is not even a single quality/capability where girls are given anything less by God. Definitely there is a difference in the physical strength which can be overcome by continues exercise, but we are not concerned about any strength games like wrestling between a man and woman that we have to talk about it. On the whole, if females want to be equal they have to stop demanding to be treated specially. Its either equal or unequal, and once its unequal it is very difficult to demand anything in particular, different people will behave in a different way and it would be impossible to have a consistent behavior towards a particular gender.
Moreover I believe the women empowerment has come a long way and has gone much away from the path it should have taken. Its being misused to the extent which cant even be imagined. Its has almost in a similar state as the caste reservation system of India. For people who have are unaware of it, people from lower castes are given precedence/reservation in educational institutes and government jobs. This was primarily implemented to improve the economical and social status of the lower castes, which because of poverty, unawareness and social pressures were deprived of good education and opportunities to grow. It started in 1950 when Ministry of Education suggested that 20% of seats for the Scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, it has changed a lot after that. If we observe now the things have been exploited to a great extent, many SC and ST are still living a very dejected lives with no exposure to any education and jobs. On the other hand a few SC and SC who are well off financially, are exploiting the reservation. They have now 2-3 generations of civil servants and families with almost everyone from elite educational institutes and earning a lot. Even their children are taking reservation and repeating the history. So the needy still are not getting anything out of this reform and at the same time the people who are aware are misusing the opportunity.
In case of women empowerment the situation is even worse than above. There was a time when the social status of women was very low in Indian society and practices like Sati were going on at large scale. They were not exposed to education and only expectation from them was to cook food and give birth to babies. Well we have come a long way from there, women are flying jets, fighter planes, going to NASA, working in big MNCs, writing books, leading media channels, running universities, singing songs, making movies, acting in them, holding strong positions in politics and the list goes on. There is not a single are where women are not there. Still they complain of not being treated equally. The best way to be equal is to stop complaining about being unequal, why don't you fight for it by your actions and not by your words or complains. There are a few scenarios where women are treated unequally and guess what women have no issues with it, intact they demand this inequality.
Gym - Anybody who goes to a gym can verify that most of the trainers want to train only women, have to seen them drooling over women, helping them with all the weights and machines. These guys treat them specially, here the preferred treatment never bothers anyone. Has it ever happened that a women has complained about the trainer giving her extra attention then all the boys - Never.
Office - In almost all the offices the girls are treated specially ( mostly ), a boss can shout ( sometimes if required ) on the guys but not on a girl, why because she might feel bad or she might not be able to take the pressure. No girl has ever complained about this. In many industries like steel, pharma, oil and gas, mining and industries of similar nature, girls don't want to work and even if they want to they want an office job, no exposure to field or the manufacturing units. Well guess what you are no princesses, its a job you work and get paid, why you demand a special treatment here. Isn't there an opportunity to be equal, why no one is taking it. There has been quite a few cases where ' the fairer sex ' has threatened ' the unfair sex' with circumstances if things don't go on their way. The misuse of sexual harassment cases by women at workplace is proven fact now.
Home - Home is where the heart is, but what has been changed in this while. Its less heart and more mind. What is equality at home ? What do we do at home , there are some house hold works which have to be done, Some money to be earned to sustain financially and some love & care for each other, raising the kids etc. How do genders become equal ? The single most important action to be equal is to be responsible equally. Be responsible for all the activities going on by sharing them. There might be scenarios where it is not possible to share all activities equally, in that case be responsible solely for some activities. Example, if in some scenario its is not possible for any gender to do household work or contribute in any way in that, in such scenario the particular person should pick atleast one activity which he is doing alone, may be earning money or anything related to kids. A lot of talk goes on around being equal well its not just the equality to argue, where a female will not take responsibility of any action going around and if told so the women empowerment and equality comes in, and this gives them the power to argue and shout at the name of equality. I believe women have become too empowered to argue and shout. Many instances of women misusing the privileges to threaten the ' in laws' of filing complaints against them. Today no urban women is underprivileged, they are well educated and aware of the opportunities they have, in fact they are misusing everything in their capacity to harass ' the unfair sex'.
Too much hype a girl when she got harassed while she was roaming around ( alone ) at 1 AM. Not that I support the persons harassing, the guys should be arrested and punished so that no-one dares to harass a female, I am just pointing out that the women are empowered thats why they feel that they can roam around at 1 AM alone. They feel free and only these women cry about women empowerment all the time. Only they intellectuals and educated one use/misuse the women empowerment trick to their benefits, sometimes genuinely and sometimes otherwise. Women empowerment and equality has turned into a cheap stunt for many and its misuse is unmeasurable. The surgeon change in status-quo has left many women bewildered, they believe they deserve all the attention, all the care and somewhere between all these they found it as an excuse to run away from their responsibilities and ' cry mama ' when somebody tries to remind them of it. The time has come when some constructive actions take place. The laws have to be more subjective considering different scenarios, the previous track record of both male and female in cases of domestic cases. Priority has to be given to women/girls from villages or such areas over the working/educated class, who can sustain them selves. Proper channels have to be created to reach the roots and educate the women who are unaware of the laws and who actually need them.
What can a male do if the wife is harassing him ? What is the wife files a complaint against him and his family ? Only thing a male can do is being depressed and adjust while this misuse of power is going on. The gender inequality is there but in todays urban scenario its other way round, the males are the depressed ones and the women are dominating.
